Our little friends didn't have to wait long. We were happy to learn recently that Jack, Babette, Toby, and Annie were hardly settled in at the shelter when they found new families. Of course, once foster kittens head back to the shelter after getting big enough for adoption, they have to have their operations first – no responsible shelter today adopts out pets without making sure they have been neutered or spayed. Fortunately, recovery time is only about a day, so the extra wait time is minimal. We also learned it seems there is a minor kitten shortage at the Humane Society right now. That's the best news we've heard in a long time! Wouldn't it be great if the normal circumstances were reversed – that people had to wait to get a new cat instead of cats having to wait at the shelter to find a new home? Of course, this is an anomaly, not the norm, and there are always plenty of older cats waiting to be adopted too. If spay and neuter programs keep working though, and if cat breeders finally do the right thing and shut down, maybe that will change as well!
